What is Labiapalsty?

Vaginal rejuvenation, specifically labiaplasty is available at our Nashua, practice. It is important to differentiate labiaplasty from other vaginal rejuvenation procedures. Vaginoplasty is a procedure to tighten or help strengthen the internal vaginal wall. In contrast, labiaplasty is a procedure to reduce the size of the external labia minora or labia majora (the inner or outer lips in the female pubic area).

Labiaplasty is a relatively simple procedure which can improve both the appearance and function of the female labia. It is a procedure which offers a comforting solution to unsightly or uncomfortably enlarged or elongated labia majora or labia minora.

Relieve Discomfort

Many women have discomfort related to their elongated or enlarged labia. The discomfort can range from bothersome to outright painful. Many athletic women complain of discomfort when riding a bicycle or horseback riding. Almost all women with this condition agree that their labia can get caught in their jeans, causing significant discomfort or chafing.

Improving Appearance

In addition to improving discomfort labiaplasty also improves the appearance of the pubic area. Many women report that the size of their labia embarrasses or inhibits them sexually. The Labiaplasty Procedure

Once you decide you would like to pursue labiaplasty here in Nashua, you will need to come in for a consultation. Although you may be worried about this being an embarrassing topic to discuss, our staff will make you as comfortable as possible. In many cases, labiaplasty is discussed when a patient comes in to consult about a different procedure. In many instances, labiaplasty can be performed at the same time as another plastic surgical procedure.

The procedure itself is relatively simple. It can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, depending on the degree of deformity and the patient’s tolerance for discomfort. The procedure takes about one hour. In most cases there is minimal bleeding and swelling.

Recovery

Post-operative discomfort is easily managed with oral pain medications. Absorbable sutures dissolve over seven to 10 days. Downtime is minimal. Most patients can return to normal activity in two to five days and return to sexual activity within a few weeks.

Potential Risks and Possible Complications

Labiaplasty is a relatively safe operation with minimal risks. Any surgical procedure has some risk, however. There is a small risk of abnormal bleeding or post-operative infection. Cosmetic deformity can result if too much tissue is removed. It is important to discuss with your surgeon exactly what tissue you wish to have removed. Patients are generally very satisfied with the outcome of this procedure.
